Taking light’s fingerprints
A team comprising researchers from University of St Andrews (including our former colleague Graham Bruce) and M-Squared Lasers have published an article in Nature Communications today on measuring the wavelength of light to sub-femtometer precision. Their method uses randomly-scattered light from an integrating sphere as a sensitive probe of wavelength, and it can be used to frequency-stabilize lasers. More information on the School’s webpage, and at the journal article.
